WARNING! This post is so freaking long. I have to put 3 days worth of story in just one post.
I never thought volunteering would be fun. I was kinda scared at first knowing that we'll be watching over 353 teens. That's what I called hard work. I've been helping Lifeteen for Lifeteen Bootcamp 2011 since the beginning from the registration to bazaar and finally the actual camp. There's nothing I could ask more of this. It just filled me with joy and I feel proud, still, of my teens that were under me.
Day 1 - The first of the camp, I have nothing but complaints. It was pretty hectic. There were lots to handle. From managing the registration to ushering the teens to their buses. 23 buses were used for the camp. 23 BUSES~! Last time during my year, there were only 10-15 buses and we had to squeeze in to fit as much as we can compared to now, they had more spaces especially to put their bags and luggages. I sweated a lot coz it was sunny that day and we were the second last one to leave the church after mass ended and the buses left. As we arrived at OBS, we had to usher the teens again to the boat house by the beach. Nice view of the beach. We were waiting for Deon's team to come coz Nelly thought there were still one more bus to wait when the fact is Deon was riding Walter's car not a bus and there were only 3 of them. Eve and I headed out to wait for them as were told, then suddenly came this white guy, an Aussie came past us with his motorcycle. He talked to us! OMG! He's so cute. Okay.... But he talked to us just to ask about the last team. That 3 whole minutes made me blushed somehow. Orang putih bah cakap sama ko. Bukan hari-hari dapat. Hensem lagi tu. Hahaha~ Iklan sekejap.
After Deon and the rest arrived, we had our briefing and lunch. My team a.k.a tribe Dan got the rock climbing instead. Although I didn't do the challenge but seeing others not making and making it was entertaining. It got bored for a moment when it rained heavily. We were all soaked. Not one bit is dry. Fully soaked. But after that, so many people tried it eventhough some of them didn't make but this is one of the challenges that they should try. Some were supportive, some just sitting down talking. Oh well, me too actually. Hahaha~ It was hard to shower coz the massive groups of teens and the shower's cubicle is so small. Sempit geng~ Mandi ayam ja bah. I came down with a fever that night from all the raining and was really beaten up. I slept a half way through during Jude Antoine's session. After taking the meds, the fever still won't come down. But the fever won't stop me from praising God. I literally jumped and shouted like I'm not sick at all. The session ended and went for post-mortem. Positive reviews from the team. That night there were two girls who I caught not sleeping. Busy calling someone. When I asked, their friend said they wanted to go back. So I told Nelly and Mel Aud came to counsel them. They were kinda regret the fact that they actually wanted to be there but their parents were half way through to fetch them. I was kinda annoyed and mad coz what for they came to this camp and at the end they wanted to back home. It's wasting their time and money. The reasons they wanted to back are first, they were afraid of the dark and some the guys bumped unto them during P&W. So much for spoiled kids huh? If I were them, my parents would yell at me for calling them late at night and they would ask me to just hold in for another 2 days. Independent bah sdh. Mana kena call sdh. :D Eve, Mel and I slept at the tent at that night and boy it was so damn cold. Day 1 - End
Day 2 - We got up to the coldness of the morning. Washed up and prepared for the morning prayers. Our breakfast for that day was fried mee n sausages. I couldn't finished it. Too much for me. Around 9am, the activity started. In the morning my tribe was doing the 4-wheel-drive challenge. This challenge is not the ordinary 4WD challenge you've heard. The catch was you have to move the 4 wheels on your own using manpower. They have to complete all the small challenges along the way. For the first batch, my tribe won. Wooo DAN~! And we got 2nd for the second batch. I was proud of them for completing the challenges. I wanted to de-brief with them but I was afraid coz I wasn't used to them yet. Takut ni bah. Buruk. During that 4WD challenge Len and I went strolling around coz we can't outrun Mel and Lee Ching. We were supposed to follow the teens but we were just a bit slow. Hahahaha~ I didn't know Len actually but we bonded after a few laughs. While we were waiting for the teens, we watched Nelly's tribe did the flying fox. There was this one girl who couldn't let go of the ropes coz she was too afraid. She was crying and crying. She stayed up there almost 15 minutes but her team mates didn't stop cheering. At the end when everybody weren't paying attention anymore, she finally did it. It happened so fast and I didn't get the chance to watch. Dang~ We were anticipated for that jump. *sigh
I forgot what was our lunch that day. I think everyone was really hungry and they managed to finish it all. For the evening challenge, we did the team dynamics. TOM~! Hahaha~ He was in-charged of the electric fence. My team said that challenge was annoying. Bah, bukan salah saya bah kamurang kena suruh start balik. Si Tom suruh. There were 4 small challenges. First, we did the electric fence, then the ski something (saya lupa) and the A-frame. The highlight of the day was 14ft wall. My tribe went first. They did some funny and remarkable thing. I could never forget that one particular incident when someone misplaced their hands unto someone's private ehem. Well, it was for the good intention of pulling everyone up the 14ft wall. It was nothing but they made big. It became a huge topic. The news spread so fast till the other tribes that was not there that time knew about it. I don't think they still remember it. For some, maybe. The challenge ended early and Mel decided to make a de-brief/sharing. We did it on spot where 14ft wall was. Everyone was positive about opening up and some did shared deep stuff. We got positive feedback from them about the activities they had done and a few negatives. I think they started to bond with each other that time. They had spend almost 2 days together and the tribe is like their family there. They cared for each other. Beautiful sight to witness it. We were still doing the sharing even though it was raining quite heavy. I couldn't see a thing coz my spectacles. Kalau saya buka, blur lah bah. We didn't managed to finish it coz of the rain. Everyone went for a wash-up and so did I. Session with Jude Antoine that night was Healing. The helpers/volunteers were asked to become the catcher for those who will fall later during healing. Quite a few numbers who fell. Thank God I didn't hurt them although I stepped on some of them coz they were on my way. Sorry ah. Jangan kasitau your parents saya pijak ko. Hahaha~ There was this boy who was really faking it. He was screaming and wailing like somebody just died but in fact you do not need to scream during that holy session. Ketara bah dia temberang. Duii~ I just wanted to shut him up. The session ended around 11++pm. And there was a girl who was kinda how to say ah...hmmm....Macam kena rasuk. Macam lah. But not really. I think she was too tired. Thank God nothing really happened. Eve and I ate maggi cup that night under the full moon coz we were so hungry. The full moon was really beautiful. Day 2 - End
Day 3 - The morning was so cold. I shivered while walking to the hall. We washed up and waiting for the morning prayers. Eve and I took a tour at the girls' dorm and did a checking on them. After the morning prayers, we headed out to our challenge. For the last day, we did the bush cooking. We had to cook using wood. I don't know whether that was challenging for them but they seemed to show a good team work. Because some of them didn't know what wood to look for, I helped them. I collected as many wood as I can and helped them with the fire. The fire was one tough job to look after but we managed to cook all. Nothing raw. All cooked. The food was nice. Dorang memang kreatif. There was this girl, Elia gave me ferrero. Thank you girl~ Sadap. We finished with all the cleaning and then moved on with sharing. For those who didn't get their chances to share on day 2, they did it on day 3. Mel asked me if I got anything to say to them and I said they need to renew their faith, read the bible and pray the rosary. They needed coz who knows what will happen after this camp. Temptations are getting greater and you need to strengthen your shields to fight over the temptations.
The teens had to get to SHC before the mass at 5pm and we were rushing them over. Another hectic day. People kept asking when will they can to their buses and blablabla. To be honest, I was almost ticked off. Seriously people, you need to be patient. The rest and I were literally running under the rain and most of the teens didn't care at all. Punyalah... But all was worth it. This experience and all. The camp ended at 10pm at SHC hall. Malas sdh saya mau taip. Oh yeah, I gave my teens chocolates but some didn't share it. Kamurang ni. Ish3...
I thanked God for all. The camp was A-WESOME.
